Anaya Vardya Interview on New American Standard Circuits Book
American Standard Circuits Introduces new book: Fundamentals of Printed Circuit Board Technologies
Steve Williams talks with Co-Author Anaya Vardya CEO and President of American Standard Circuits about his new book the Fundamentals of Printed Circuit Board Technologies, the newest and most comprehensive of short Printed Circuit Board books.
Steve: First question Anaya; There are already a number of books on PCB technology, why did you write this one?
Anaya: The motivation for writing this book came from our customers, who are always very surprised at the complexity of our processes when they visit for a plant tour or audit. We feel it is critical that our customers are educated on the state of the art of printed circuit board fabrication. Fully understanding the processes will help to avoid over, or under, engineering a design and assure that it is manufacturable.
Steve: Why is it different from some of the other books available today?
Anaya: Printed circuit board fabrication is complicated, and we wanted to explain this complexity in a way that can be easily understood by not only engineers and designers, but also by the average person working out on the shop floor. We also wanted to craft more than another book on the basis of PCB fabrication, so we included a number of advanced technology processes that may not be covered by other books.
Steve: Can you talk about some of the extra features that you’ve added to the book?
Anaya: Sure, the advanced technology I mentioned includes topics like HDI (high density interconnect), Flex/Rigid-Flex, Controlled Impedance, RF/Microwave, RF Thermal Management and Thermal PCBs. We also added in a chapter on what customers can provide the fabricator to make sure they receive an accurate quote. This is a much larger issue than most people would suspect, and one that can be easily fixed with a little education on what exactly is needed.
Steve: This is your third book, and I happen to know that there is a fourth in the works. ASC is quickly becoming known as the industry expert in a number of technologies. Are the books part of a larger strategy?
Anaya: You could certainly say that. We feel that it is critical to educate our customers, and potential customers, in the design and manufacturing considerations of advanced technology PCB technology.
Steve: Who is the book targeting? Who is it written for?
Anaya: The short answer is anybody in the industry. More specifically, it was written to target OEMs, ODMs and Contract Manufacturers; basically, anyone that is designing printed circuit boards. We also feel this book would be beneficial to anyone that is working in the industry, especially people that are just entering it.
Steve: When will be the book be available?
Anaya: Our targeted launch date is Tuesday March 31, 2020.
Steve: Is this an e-book or a print book?
Anaya: It is a free e-book.
Steve: Will a print copy be available in time?
Anaya: Yes, there will eventually be a printed version of the book that you will be able to get from us.
Steve: How can people get a copy of the book?
Anaya: The book can be downloaded directly from our website at https://www.asc-i.com/fundamentals-pcb-tech/
Steve: Is it available to anyone?
Anaya: Of course!
Steve: Any last comments
Anaya: Yes absolutely. We spent a lot of time writing this book in the hopes of giving back to an industry that has been very good to us. We sincerely hope that everyone who downloads and reads it from PCB designers, to manufacturing people, to engineers, to owners, to investors and to buyers and anyone else who needs to know more about printed circuit boards and how they are fabricated. We look forward to getting feedback from people who read the book. Our hope is that it becomes required reading to anyone in our business whether they are twenty-five-year veterans or new to our industry.
